Greece’s Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis heads to Brussels today for the two-day NATO Summit of Foreign Ministers and has a full agenda of meetings, in addition to the regular NATO program.
According to To BHMA, today’s NATO meeting will focus on the ongoing war in Ukraine and general security concerns in the “Southern Neighborhood”, in preparation for the NATO Summit scheduled for July 9-11 in Washington DC.
FM Gerapetritis will attend an event organized by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of NATO, and previous reports have noted that the two will likely have an additional bilateral discussion.
Also on the agenda, as previously noted, is a meeting with the FM’s Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan to discuss Greek-Turkish relations.
This will be there first meeting since President Erdogan’s election losses on Sunday, and speculation has been swirling about the potential impact on Greek-Turkish relations. Sources have told Ta Nea that any about-face or hardening of positions is highly unlikely.
The FM is also expected to attend a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kulebo.
And he will join a meeting of the Minsters of Foreign Affairs of NATO to be held with the partners from the Indo-Pacific region like Australia, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea and in the presence of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
