George Apostolakis, a member of parliament from the Democratic Patriotic Movement “Niki” party, has reportedly resigned from the party, according to In.gr. As announced to the House and the Deputy Speaker of the House, George Georgantas, the MP surrendered his seat back to the party.

According to To Vima, Apostolakis resigned for health reasons. He had suffered a heart attack three months ago and had reportedly since distanced himself from the party, and had also resigned from the committees in which he participated.

The first runner-up for the seat is Athanasios Rakovallis.

The far-right Victory party currently has ten seats in the parliament. The party was a new-comer to parliament after the 2023 elections, winning 3.9% of the vote. The party’s platform emphasizes opposition to immigration, abortion, and COVID-19 vaccines, and warns of threats to traditional Greek values, including family and gender norms. Its founder has strong ties to conservative church organizations and Mount Athos monasteries.
