Trump Tells Milwaukee Supporters He’s As Greek as Giannis

Donald Trump raised eyebrows at a Wisconsin rally by saying he's "the same Greek" as Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo

Former US president and current Republican presidential contender Donald Trump tossed a “Greek element” into the ongoing race on Friday by telling an audience of supporters at a Wisconsin rally by claiming he has “the same Greek” as Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was born in Athens to Nigerian parents and was later naturalized as a citizen of the country.

The former president compared himself to Milwaukee Bucks leader and Greek international Antetokounmpo, suggesting that he’s just as “Greek” as the NBA star.

The 29-year-old Antetokounmpo is also a mainstay player on Greece’s national basketball team.

“Your team is very good. I would say the Greek is a seriously good player. Do you agree? And tell me, who has more Greek in him, the Greek or me? I think we have about the same, right?” Trump said. “He’s a great player. Maybe the best player in the NBA, actually. He’s supposed to be a very good guy, too.”

The more-or-less “off-color” quip came during the outspoken former US president’s address at the Fiserv Forum, the Milwaukee Bucks’ home court, where he repeatedly referred to Giannis as “the Greek.”
