After a heated debate in the Greek Parliament on Tuesday over the Tempi train crash regarding a PASOK proposal to establish a parliamentary inquiry committee into Deputy Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Christos Triantopoulos, who resigned earlier in the day, 277 MPs voted for the motion, while 12 voted against it
Deputies of the ruling New Democracy (ND) party also voted for the proposal against Triantopoulos, who denied any involvement in an alleged cover-up in the aftermath of the tragic Tempi train disaster.
The discussion was marked by heated exchanges among political leaders. PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis accused the government of attempting to manipulate the accident site, while Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis criticized PASOK for hypocrisy. Opposition leader of SYRIZA Sokratis Famellos called for the government’s resignation, arguing that it “no longer has the public’s trust.” Other opposition parties also delivered sharp criticism during the debate.
