Greece will receive €101.53 million in relief funds from the European Union Solidarity Fund for the natural disasters caused by Storm Daniel in 2023, following a relevant decision by the EU Ministers’ Council.
Apart from Greece, the EU Ministers’ Council also agreed to greenlight relief funds for Italy, Spain, Austria, Slovenia, and France with the aid package deriving from the 2024 EU budget.
The total figure earmarked for natural disaster relief by the European Solidarity Fund amounts was over €1 billion. The amount includes the disbursement, and advanced payments and will be allocated as follows:
– €101.53 million to provide assistance to Greece after the floods caused by Mediterranean storm Daniel in several locations in central Greece, particularly in the Thessaly region, in September 2023, including an advance payment of €25.38 million.
– €446.64 million to provide assistance to Italy after floods caused by exceptionally heavy rainfall in the Emilia-Romagna region in May 2023 (€378.83 million), including an advance payment of €94.71 million, and in the Tuscany region in October and November 2023 (€67.81 million).
– €428.41 million to provide assistance to Slovenia after floods caused by heavy rainfall across the country in August 2023, including an advance payment of €100 million.
– €5.20 million to provide assistance to Austria after floods caused by heavy rainfall in its southern regions in August 2023.
– €46.76 million to provide assistance to France after floods caused by heavy rainfall in the former Nord-Pas-de-Calais region in November 2023, including an advance payment of €11.69 million.
