Sokrates Famellos has been elected the new President of SYRIZA following Sunday’s party elections. With 99% of the votes counted, Famellos secured 49.41% of the vote, emerging victorious over Pavlos Polakis, who secured 43.51%.

The polls for the election of SYRIZA‘s new president closed at 8:00 pm, after being extended by one hour due to the continued arrival of party members to vote.

According to sources from the party’s headquarters, the total number of voters, both domestically and abroad, reached 70,152, of which approximately 11,000 were new registrations.

The voting process took place at 465 polling stations nationwide, open from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, with the four candidates being Socrates Famellos, Pavlos Polakis, Nikolaos Farantouris, and Apostolos Gletsos.

Eligibility to vote was granted to individuals aged 15 and above who was either already a member of the party or who registered as a member upon arrival at the polling stations, even on the day of the election.

For residents abroad, voting was conducted electronically, starting at midnight on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, and concluding today, Nov. 24, at 7:00 pm.
