Ruling New Democracy (ND) party is given an 11.1% percentage point lead over its nearest political rival in the latest opinion poll whose results were announced on Monday. Second place is now held by social democrat PASOK, which pooled 10.5% of respondents’ preferences to 21.6% for the center-right ruling party.

The poll was conducted by the MRB firm between Aug. 26 and Aug. 30 and presented on the prime-time newscast of Athens-based Open television.

The current main opposition party, leftist SYRIZA, falls in the specific poll to 8.5%, followed by the Elliniki Lysi (Greek Solution) at 8% and the Communist Party (KKE) at 7.3%.

If the results are extrapolated, then ND is shown with 27.7%; PASOK 13.4%; SYRIZA 10.9%; KKE 9.3% and Elliniki Lysi 10.2%.

The undecided / undetermined vote reaches 21%.

In terms of an internal party race for PASOK, current president Nikos Androulakis leads with 25.5%, followed by his nearest of several rival contenders, new Athens Mayor Haris Doukas, 21.9%.
