Roberta Metsola was re-elected as President of the European Parliament (EP) today and will serve for another two and a half years.
She was President of the EP previously, from 2022 until the end of the most recent cycle of the EP this early summer.
Metsola is 45 years old and a member of Malta’s Nationalist Party (PN) and the European People’s Party (EPP). She was re-elected with 562 votes in favor out of a total of 720 votes.
Her re-election does not come as a surprise, as her only competitor was Spain’s Irene Montero from the Left, who ran for symbolic reasons against Metsola. Montero garnered just 61 votes.
