Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris appears to have overtaken her rival Donald Trump by 47% to 41% also winning over significant support from middle-income households, leading Trump 45% to 43%, according to the latest poll findings reported by Reuters on Thursday.

According to the Reuters/Ipsos analysis, the new data reveals a shift in key demographic groups as the 2024 election nears.

Suburban and middle-class voters are a very important demographic accounting for nearly half of the U.S. electorate and expected to determine the outcome in swing states. Additionally, voter turnout in urban and rural areas will be critical.

According to Reuters, despite Harris’ modest national lead, decisive states like Arizona, Michigan, and Georgia remain fiercely contested.

Harris’ focus on protecting democracy and countering political extremism resonates with many U.S. voters. On the other hand, many voters favor Trump for his pledges to tackle inflation, among others.

Earlier Reuters/Ipsos polls in June and July before current President U.S. President Joe Biden dropped out, were giving Trump a 43% to 40% lead among suburban voters.

Harris began to gain ground after launching her campaign in July overtaking Trump 47% to 41% among suburban voters in Sept. and Oct. polling and marking a nine-point swing for the Democrats.
