Days after his former fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle was tapped by his father, US president-elect Donald Trump, as the new ambassador to Greece Donald Trump Jr. was quoted by a US media outlet on Friday as saying the pair will “never stop caring for each other and will always keep a special bond.”

The statement was carried by the website Page Six, which it described as an exclusive statement.

In referring to the 55-year-old Guilfoyle’s appointment – pending Senate ratification – as America’s top diplomat in Greece, Trump Jr., 46, also emphasized that “I could not be more proud of her and the important role she’ll continue to play in my father’s administration.”

He also defended her after heightened media scrutiny of his former partner.

“Anyone taking baseless and petty fake news cheap shots at her in the tabloids are just embarrassing themselves,” Don Jr. said of Guilfoyle, who has served as a San Francisco prosecutor, a Fox News panelist and one of Trump senior’s closest allies and advisers.

“.. The people of Greece are getting an absolute star and now the whole world will see it more than ever.”
