The majority of Greeks (61%) believe the country is headed in the “wrong direction,” according to the findings of the latest poll conducted by Interview for media outlet Politic.
The poll reflects widespread discontent among the respondents who expressed their frustration with the current government’s policies, with the high cost of living remaining the leading issue of concern.
The primary worries of the Greek citizens in the poll include high prices, soaring energy costs, and low wages, consistently ranking in the top three problems. Rounding out the top five are demographic challenges and foreign policy issues vis-à-vis relations with Turkey.
Reaction to Samaras’ Expulsion
Nearly two weeks after the expulsion of former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras from ruling New Democracy (ND), seven out of ten ND voters agree with the expulsion. Opinions among voters of other parties are more divided, with 48% in favor and 44% opposed.
The poll, conducted before SYRIZA’s elections on Sunday, showed the leftist party experiencing a sharp decline in public support, falling to seventh place with just 4.3%. It now ranks below the new party founded by SYRIZA’s former leader, Stefanos Kasselakis.
Regarding voters’ intentions, the parties received:
- New Democracy (ND): 27.2% (up from 25%)
- PASOK–Movement for Change: 15.7% (up from 13.1%)
- Greek Solution: 8.5% (up from 7.1%)
- Communist Party of Greece (KKE): 8.0%
- Voice of Reason: 7.0% (up from 6%)
- Democracy Movement (Kasselakis): 7.0%
- SYRIZA: 4.3% (down from 6.6%)
- Course of Freedom: 3.5% (down from 3.8%)
- Victory (NIKI): 3.0% (down from 4.4%)
- MeRA25: 3.0% (down from 3.5%)
