Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who is in London on a 3-day official working visit, told BBC in an interview, Sunday that “keeping the Parthenon Marbles at the British Museum is artistic vandalism akin to cutting the Mona Lisa in half”.
Responding to where the Marbles would look better, he said: “I think the answer is very clear. They do look better in the Acropolis Museum, a state-of-the-art museum that was built for that purpose.”
The Greek PM is scheduled to meet with his British counterpart Rishi Sunak on Tuesday afternoon at 10 Downing Street, after his Monday meeting with the leader of the Labor Party, Keir Starmer, who last week reportedly said he would consider repatriating them if he becomes prime minister at the next election.
Government sources indicate that the meeting with Rishi Sunak will involve a comprehensive review of Greek-British relations, and the leaders will exchange views on regional and international matters.
Against the backdrop of Greece’s positive economic performance within the Eurozone Mitsotakis will meet with investors tomorrow, showcasing investment opportunities in Greece at an investment conference organized by the Athens Exchange group (ATHEX group) and Morgan Stanley in London.
The Prime Minister, a central speaker in last year’s ATHEX group roadshow in London, will engage in a public discussion with Luigi Rizzo, Vice Chairman of Investment Banking at Morgan Stanley.
