Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized that Greece and Cyprus serve as pillars of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean during a quadrilateral Summit in Paris between Greece, France, Cyprus, and Lebanon on Friday.

“Greece and Cyprus are factors and pillars of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean. I believe this framework will have continuity and long-term significance,” Mitsotakis stated following the high-level meeting. The summit also featured the participation of Syria’s interim president, Al Shaara, via teleconference.

Security and energy issues were at the forefront of discussions, alongside connectivity and broader challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean, according to Greece’s public broadcaster ERT.

“I consider it highly significant that France remains actively engaged in developments in the Eastern Mediterranean,” Mitsotakis remarked.

The Greek Prime Minister also discussed the support that Greece and its partners can provide to Lebanon. “It is extremely positive that, after many complex and lengthy procedures, Lebanon has elected a new president,” he added.

Mitsotakis expressed his horror over the atrocities recently committed against Christian populations in northwestern Syria and stressed the importance of full accountability. He reiterated Greece’s support for an inclusive Syria that respects all minorities and adheres to international law.
