Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with a select group of CEOs of leading companies and associations who are members of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) at the Maximos Mansion this morning.
Welcoming the attendees Mitsotakis said “We have an opportunity to discuss significant issues both at the national policy level and in terms of potential interventions in a European context.”
Additionally, as stated by the Prime Minister in his opening statement, he had the chance to discuss ways to support innovation in Greece. “This is a priority area for us,” he emphasized.
The Greek PM highlighted the complexity of the current environment, expressing the challenge of balancing access to innovative and generic drugs at affordable prices while ensuring supply chain stability and fostering innovation in drug discovery.
Albert Bourla, President and CEO of Pfizer, who convened the meeting coinciding with the biennial two-day global policy forum, asserted that Greece was selected due to its unwavering support for innovation. “By being here, we express our satisfaction,” Bourla remarked.
During the meeting, there was discussion on the new European pharmaceutical legislation, as well as the strategic direction the drug industry intends to take over the next five years.
