The meeting at Downing Street is set at 12:45, and is seen as an opportunity to reset bilateral relations across multiple sectors during a critical geopolitical time for the West amidst escalating tensions on the Ukrainian front and the Middle East.

Key areas of focus are expected to include shipping, research, innovation and tourism. It’s worth mentioning here that the UK is Greece’s second most important tourism market.

Migration will also be a high-priority on the agenda of discussions as it is a burning issue for both countries. The UK faces increasing migration flows daily, while Greece is internationally recognized for its border management and security measures.

The two leaders will also discuss promoting closer international cooperation between the UK and Greece, particularly as Greece prepares to serve as one of the ten non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for the 2025-2026 term, to which the UK is a permanent member.

Mitsotakis and Starmer are also expected to focus on regional and international matters, emphasizing recent developments in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as the future of UK-EU relations.

Regarding Greece’s longstanding request for the reunification of the Parthenon Marbles, government sources emphasize that this matter is primarily being discussed with the British Museum.
