PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis Honored with Global Citizen Award in NYC

Upon receiving the Global Citizen Award he said 'this belongs to the Greek people for their resilience and perseverance, for all they have achieved in recent years'

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis received the Global Citizen Award of the Global Council for what the latter called his leadership abilities, during a ceremony on Monday evening in New York City. The award was presented to him by Pfizer Chairman and CEO Albert Bourla.

In his acceptance remarks the prime minister emphasized that “this award belongs to the Greek people for their resilience and perseverance, for all they have achieved in recent years.”

Mitsotakis highlighted that what has been proven in Greece is that it is feasible for a country to be governed from the political center, being pro-growth and fiscally responsible at the same time.

“One can be—and here I echo the words of my good friend Giorgia Meloni—a true patriot, focusing on strong defense and border protection, while at the same time being socially liberal, providing high-quality public goods, and reducing inequalities,” he stressed.

“Our government emphasizes policy over politics,” he said, stating that true leaders are responsible for finding solutions and being judged by how much they improve the lives of citizens.
