In his acceptance remarks the prime minister emphasized that “this award belongs to the Greek people for their resilience and perseverance, for all they have achieved in recent years.”
Mitsotakis highlighted that what has been proven in Greece is that it is feasible for a country to be governed from the political center, being pro-growth and fiscally responsible at the same time.
“One can be—and here I echo the words of my good friend Giorgia Meloni—a true patriot, focusing on strong defense and border protection, while at the same time being socially liberal, providing high-quality public goods, and reducing inequalities,” he stressed.
“Our government emphasizes policy over politics,” he said, stating that true leaders are responsible for finding solutions and being judged by how much they improve the lives of citizens.
The prime minister also referred to Greece’s strong ties with the United States, highlighting that Greece is a steadfast ally of Washington and a pillar of security and stability in a turbulent region.
On his part, in presenting him with the Global Citizen Award, Bourla described the Greek PM as a visionary leader, whose re-election demonstrates his commitment to his political promises, while also earning the respect of world leaders.
“This award belongs most of all to the people of Greece for their resilience and their perseverance.”
