Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the small Dodecanese Island of Tilos on Monday, as the island’s municipality has been international hailed with a “Zero Waste Cities” certification.
“I want to congratulate you for this significant initiative, which creates an interesting institutional precedent, but I mainly want to underline the great importance I attach, and that the government as a whole attach, to innovative works that turn cyclical economy into reality,” Mitsotakis said.
The municipal program “Just Go Zero” garnered international praise of late by practically eliminating non-recyclable waste and kickstarting a small cyclical economy. The island also employs a cutting-edge RES system for electricity supply, using a wind farm, solar panels and power storage battery cells.
The Greek prime minister also toured the new archaeological museum on the island.
