Ruling New Democracy (ND) party features a 13.1 -percentage point over PASOK, which is now entrenched in second place in a handful of recently released opinion polls in the country.
In the latest poll results presented on Monday evening, the firm Opinion Poll has center-right ND picking up 27.1% of respondents’ preferences, compared to 14% for socialist/social democrat PASOK.
The poll was conducted between Sept. 24 and Sept. 28 on a sample of 1,502 respondents, and presented on the Athens-based television channel Action24.
The current main opposition party, leftist SYRIZA, falls to fifth place with 7.7%, in line with other opinion poll results. Third place goes to the Communist Party (KKE) with 8.8%, followed by the right-of-center and Eurosceptic Elliniki Lysi (Greek Solution) party at 7.8%.
Another new party that has broken the 3% threshold is the Foni Logikis (Voice of Reason) formation, at 3.8%, which is also decidedly to the right of the political spectrum and advocates strict measures to curb illegal immigration to Europe.
Parties exceeding 3 percent of the vote in a general election (among valid ballots) elected Parliament deputies.
The figure given for undecided respondents in the same poll is 16%.
Specifically, Androulakis is favored by 32.2% of the specific sample of respondents, with Athens Mayor Haris Doukas in second place with 30.7%.
