According to To Vima, the process of electing the new Speaker of the House will take place immediately, most likely on Monday or Tuesday.

As government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis stated: “Following the recent resignation of Konstantinos Tasoulas from his position as MP and therefore from the position of Speaker of the Parliament in view of the procedure for the election of the new President of the Republic, we announce that the proposal of the parliamentary majority for the position of Speaker of the Parliament is the MP of Athens Nikitas Kaklamanis.”

Born on April 1, 1946, in Andros, Kaklamanis was originally a physician specializing in Radiotherapy-Oncology and served as an Assistant Professor. He worked at “Aretaieo” Hospital for decades and was deeply involved in medical trade unionism, holding leadership roles like General Secretary of the Panhellenic Medical Association.

In politics, he was elected MP multiple times with New Democracy, served as an MEP (1994) with Political Spring, and held key roles such as Minister of Health (2004–2006), Mayor of Athens (2007–2010), and President of the Central Union of Municipalities (2007–2011). He also served as Vice President and later First Vice President of the Parliament.
