Ambassadors of European Union Member States, along with Norway and Switzerland, visited the new floating storage and regasification unit in northern Greece, called the Alexandroupolis FSRU, this past Wednesday, as the terminal gears up for the commencement of its operations on October 1.


The Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides met in Athens on Thursday to discuss a host of political and economic issues, including their common goal of restarting talks on the issue of occupied Cyprus.


A large-scale operation by Greek police on Friday against Roma settlements located near the town of Fyli, in the northwestern part of Attica resulted in 10 arrests and the confiscation of weapons and stolen goods, among other things.


Bank of Greece (BoG) data indicated the current accounts trade deficit recorded a rise amounting to €8.6 billion over the first 7 months of 2024, compared to the same period last year. The rise is primarily attributed to the fall of the balance of goods records and, to a lesser extent, to the balance of primary income. The improvement of the secondary income balance partly offsets this.


The Great Interconnector Project, a crucial Greece-Cyprus-Israel undersea power interconnection, whose progress had stalled after disputes between Greece’s Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) and the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) arose over contractual matters, was approved by the latter in a session on Friday.
