“Iran made a big mistake and will pay for it,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday night (1/10), following a missile attack on Israel from Iran.
“Whoever attacks us. We attack them,” the Israeli Prime Minister said as he gathered his Security Cabinet for a late-night meeting.
Netanyahu stated that the attack “failed”—despite Tehran claiming that about 90% of the missiles it launched hit their targets.
“The regime in Iran does not understand our determination to defend ourselves and our resolve to strike back at our enemies,” he added.
Earlier that same day, Iran launched nearly 200 missiles toward Israel in retaliation for deadly military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced that they had launched dozens of missiles toward Israel and warned that Israel would be targeted again if it retaliated. They also stated that the missile strikes were in response to the assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and the deputy commander of the Revolutionary Guards in Lebanon, Abbas Nilforoushan.
Today’s attack was the second Iran has launched against Israel, following one in April when Tehran claimed it acted “in self-defense” after an attack on its consulate in Damascus that killed seven soldiers.
The Revolutionary Guards also claimed they struck three military bases on the outskirts of Tel Aviv.
In their statement today, the Revolutionary Guards claimed they acted “in accordance with the United Nations Charter” after a “period of restraint” following what they called a violation of the “national sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran” with the assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran.
Meanwhile, earlier in a post on platform X (formerly Twitter), Israel’s secret services, Mossad, stated that “Israel will attack Iran extensively tonight.” Reports mentioned explosions near Mossad’s headquarters and Unit 8200, but these have yet to be confirmed.
