NATO’s newly appointed Secretary General Mark Rutte will be in Athens on Tuesday, in his first official visit to the country in his current role.

His visit comes on the heels of his trip to Turkey, where he met with the country’s President, Recep Erdogan and discussed collective security issues.

The Secretary General was hosted by Turkey’s secretary of defence and reviewed the country’s air defence capabilities.

Mark Rutte’s Visit to Athens

On Tuesday, Mark Rutte is scheduled to meet with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Maximos Mansion.

Their meeting will be followed by a joint press statement, which according to an announcement by NATO, is scheduled for 12:15 and will be livestreamed on NATO’s website.

He will also have discussions with Greece’s Minister of Defence and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias and Giorgos Gerapetritis, respectively.

Top items on the agenda are sure to include the escalation of the war between Ukraine and Russia, following the launch of a Russian ballistic missile, terrorism, and collective security issues presented by instability in the middle east.
