Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed optimism and self-confidence for 2025, in his New Year’s message on Tuesday, hours before 2024 is filed in the annals of history.

“We are leaving behind the turmoil and misery of yesteryear,” Mitsotakis said, adding “that the best is ahead of us.”

“No progress should never be considered enough. But this is now visible, even more so if we think about the road we have travelled so far, something that gives us new self-confidence so that united we can make the hopes certain, the steps of our country to make leaps and bounds, from the today we live in to the tomorrow we want,” he said.

Mitsotakis added that despite the serious geopolitical shocks of 2024 in Greece’s neighborhood and the world, “we welcome 2025 with the confidence of a country that, despite the obstacles, keeps its steering wheel focused on progress, strengthening its defense and economy and trying, day by day, to make the lives of all Greeks better”.

Androulakis

In his New Year’s message, PASOK party president Nikos Androulakis underlined a central goal of creating what he called an environment of social safety with hope and prospects for all the Greek people.

“We are leaving behind us an important milestone, the completion of half a century of the restoration of democracy, that’s why we must open up, as a society, to the challenges of the future with self-criticism, insight and a plan.

“We still have much to do in order to make our society fairer, to improve the quality of our democracy and make our country more resilient. The Greek people demand more meritocracy, transparency and justice.”

Famellos

On his part, newly elected SYRIZA president Socrates Famellos said his leftist party is “fighting for a just world,” while expressing his best wishes for progress and democracy.

“I wish from the bottom of my heart that 2025 will bring only bright and better days for all of Greek society. For all families and all children to have what’s self-evident: A warm house, a proper table, medicine, a doctor, a teacher…and a strong state, which guarantees decent wages, incomes and pensions.”
