Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took to Facebook on Friday to focus on the country’s economic performance in 2024 and to set new goals, as he said, for the new year.

“The first post for 2025 is on entrepreneurship. 2024 was a landmark year for Greek business, as, according to figures of the general commercial register, 64,262 new businesses opened, recording an 11% increase compared to 2023. This is the highest level in recent years, with an overall increase of 50% compared to 2020.

“It’s further proof that the Greek economy is on the road to recovery. Every business that closes – mainly sole proprietorships or seasonal businesses – due to retirement transformation into another type of establishment – is replaced by three new ones… Sectors such as retail and wholesale trade, catering, tourism and tech professions continue to lead the way. At the same time, strengthening industry and manufacturing, whose contribution in 2024 was also significant, remains a strategic goal of this government.

“This course is not a coincidence. It’s the result of efforts by all.”

Mitsotakis also identified his government’s business-friendly goals for 2025 as further improving the business and investment environment, strengthening infrastructure, reducing bureaucracy and ensuring that innovations find their way to the market.
