Infighting Continues Within Main Opposition SYRIZA

Even party leader Stefanos Kasselakis’ party allies appeared somewhat cool over the prospect of a change in the party’s name

Main opposition SYRIZA party remained in the throes of an internal clash this week amid a looming central committee meeting, following explosive proposal by party president Stefanos Kasselakis for fundamental changes, including the party’s name.

Even Kasselakis’ party allies appeared somewhat cool over the prospect of a change in the party’s name, which officially is the Coaliton  of the Radical Left, or SYRIZA in its Greek acronym.

Another “thorn” in Kasselakis’ side is a movement known as the “87”, comprised of deputies and cadres now openly expressing disagreements with his leadership.

A “battle royale”, however, for the leftist party’s future will come in October, with a conference tasked with considering changes to the party’s charter.
