The Athens Bar Association (ABA) has announced a strike for Monday, Sept. 16, in protest of reforms announced by the relevant justice ministry, namely, mergers of courthouses, elimination of certain lower courts and procedural measures to speed up legal hearings and actual trials.


Greek exports to Turkey recorded a 15.2% drop, from $988 million to $837.4 million, compared to the same period of 2023, in the first half of 2024, according to the Greek Embassy in Ankara, citing data published by Turkey’s Statistical Service.


Residents of several regions across northern Greece, including the north Aegean islands of Samothrace, Limnos, Aghios Efstratios and Thassos, were issued severe weather warnings via SMS on their mobile phones on Tuesday afternoon, as the first major storm of the autumn season rolled into Greece from the northwest.


The inflation rate in Greece rose by 3% in August last month – on an annual basis – compared to 2.7% in the previous month, July 2024, and 2.7% in the corresponding month of 2023, according to Greece’s statistics authority, EL.STAT.


Greece’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Evangelos Sekeris, underlined the need to reinforce all available tools at the UN’s disposal and introduce new ones to maintain peace, during an open discussion at the UN Security Council on peacekeeping operations.
