United States President-elect, Donald Trump, nominated Michael Rigas, of Greek descent, for the role of Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Recourses, on Thursday Dec. 12.
“Michael will bring accountability to the State Department as he did Government wide, when he served in my First Term as the Deputy and Acting Director of the Office of Personnel Management, and the Acting Deputy Director for Management at the Office of Management and Budget,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He praised Rigas by calling him “A conservative warrior who knows how Government works, and will help Make America Great Again.”
Rigas was also utilized by the previous Trump administration in its final months. In March 2020, he was appointed Deputy Director of the United States Office of Personnel Management and Acting Deputy Director for Management at the Office of Management and Budget.
In previous years, Rigas worked in both the private and public sectors, focusing on improving organizational performance and streamlining operations.
His CV includes serving both as Senior Advisor and as Associate Administrator at the General Services Administration (GSA). At The Massachusetts Department of Veterans’ Services Rigas served as Chief of Staff and later at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C.
The new deputy’s private sector working experience includes the Mellon Financial Corporation and Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., while he holds an M.A. in public administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and a B.A. and M.A. in economics from Boston University.
