Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan chose to send a message regarding Greek-Turkish relations ahead of his upcoming first visit to Greece and his meeting with his Greek counterpart George Gerapetritis, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 8.

In an interview with a Turkish newspaper, Fidan conveyed a “message” advocating for a win-win approach or “kazan-kazan” in Turkish, regarding issues in the Aegean Sea that concern both countries.

Fidan outlined Turkey’s stance in relation to the ongoing matters in the Aegean Sea with the following statement:

“We are committed to seeking solutions to our ongoing issues with Greece based on the principle of mutual benefit (known as kazan-kazan), in line with the vision laid out by our President. We are engaging in substantive discussions on the existing problems, aiming to resolve them in a way that allows for a definitive solution that serves the interests of both sides. Our goal is to transform the Aegean into a sea of peace.”

Meanwhile, Greek government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis, commenting on the possibility that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan might change his approach toward Greek-Turkish relations following Donald Trump’s victory, stated that Greece does not shape its bilateral relations with other countries based on a third country.

He further affirmed that regarding Turkey, Greece has chosen the path of dialogue which by no means, is a path of concessions.

In response to the question on how Trump’s good relations with Turkey will affect Greece, Marinakis emphasized that over the years, Greece has managed to strengthen its position in relation to its neighboring countries.

“Greece is a country that matters both on the European and the global map,” Marinakis added.
