US Vice President Kamala Harris called President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday afternoon (EST) “to congratulate him on winning the 2024 presidential election,” according to an aide for the defeated Democrat contender.

The same report, as cited by the WSJ, said Harris “discussed the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and being a president for all Americans.”

Harris is set to make a speech at her alma mater, Howard University, at roughly 18.00 EST (2300GMT), a day after a late-night election appearance at her main campaign party at the same school was cancelled.

Trump was elected as the 47th president of the United States on Tuesday, taking both the popular vote and the electoral college majority in a much easier than expected victory.
