Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou received her Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the presidential mansion, as part of the scheduled meetings during the latter’s one-day visit to Greece. It is the first time the two heads of state meet.
“The tragic events in our countries have become a catalyst to confirm that the sense of solidarity in challenging times unites our two peoples. This realization provides a strong foundation for the political will to consolidate, allowing for the deepening of cooperation and the avoidance of tensions in our bilateral relations,” stated President Sakellaropoulou.
“Considering what is happening in our surroundings, it is more necessary than ever for Greece and Turkey to cooperate to strengthen prosperity and preserve peace, stability, and respect for international law. This collaboration is also essential for promoting good neighborly relations for the benefit of our two nations,” continued the President of the Republic.
“Being aware that there are issues on which we differ, maintaining a constructive climate is important. Your presence in Greece after 6 years, I believe, reflects this positive spirit,” President Sakellaropoulou added.
“I believe that this session will mark the beginning of a new era in Greece-Turkey relations,” Mr. Erdogan said on his part. “The ministers of the two countries will have constructive meetings. We will discuss the steps we can take on all issues. The preparations have been made by the ministers. We will continue our path more favorably. I believe it will be better for the future of both parties to speak with a half-full glass.”
The Turkish President will meet with Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Maximos Mansion at 12:15.
