Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis promised that all the citizens impacted by the wildfires that ravaged farmland, forestry, businesses, and residences in the southeastern Attica region would receive timely financial aid.
In statements from Chania, Crete, where Mitsotakis attended the celebrations of the Dormition of the Theotokos, the PM expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to extinguishing the devastating fires.
Mitsotakis stated that the Dormition is a celebration of hope to face major difficulties and emphasized that it is also a day of celebration for our Armed Forces, which the government continuously seeks to strengthen—a necessity in the turbulent times we are living in.
“We celebrate today the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, faithful to our traditions. The Assumption is a significant celebration of Orthodoxy, providing all of us with hope and strength to face great challenges. It is also a day when our Armed Forces celebrate, and we constantly strive to reinforce them, something essential in these troubled times,” said PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis at he beginning of his statement.
The Greek Premier added: “On the occasion of this celebration, I would like to once again thank all the members of the state apparatus and all the volunteers who, in recent days, fought very difficult battles against the flames in Attica. I assure the fortunately few fellow citizens affected by the fire that the state will act swiftly to compensate them.”
Mitsotakis concluded: “I hope these moments of reflection will prompt us all to consider how we can become better and how, united, we can move forward to successfully face the great challenges we see coming in the future. On this occasion, I once again wish all Greeks a happy holiday wherever they are in the world.”
