Greek PM Mitsotakis to Meet Briefly with Erdogan at NATO Summit

Greek PM Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet briefly on Wed. in Washington on the sidelines of the NATO Summit.

A much-anticipated meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been scheduled for Wednesday on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Washington, which opened today.

According to reports in Athens, Mitsotakis will meet briefly with Erdogan tomorrow ahead a scheduled meeting in New York in September during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

Diplomatic negotiations were ongoing to secure Wednesday’s meeting between the two leaders, which was not initially planned. Athens welcomed the news.

In addition to attending NATO’s 75th anniversary summit, Mitsotakis will also be participating in a Council on Foreign Relations event and a White House dinner hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden. The Greek PM is also set to meet with the leaders of North Macedonia and Albania.

Mitsotakis’ summit agenda includes Greek foreign policy issues, among others.
