Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to continue supporting Ukraine during joint statements after a meeting with his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk in Warsaw on Friday.
In his statements, Mitsotakis, who noted his close ties to Poland due to his Polish wife Mareva Grabowska, said that after the “unprovoked and illegal attack by Russia against Ukraine” entered its third year the EU would continue its support for Ukraine, economically, and militarily, for as long as necessary.
On his part, Donald Tusk stressed that he was optimistic that cooperation in the EU ensured a secure future for Europe, remarking that collaborating with Prime Minister Mitsotakis was always excellent due to shared experiences and mentalities.
He added that “we will strive to have a positive influence on shaping European strategies regarding security and migration”, revealing that it [migration] was something the two leaders discussed extensively. “We will exchange practical experiences regarding effectively protecting borders against irregular migration. Both countries have serious reasons to address illegal migration.”
The visit to Warsaw by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the first by a Greek Prime Minister since 2011, comes a day after he was in Vilnius, Lithuania for the 3 Seas Initiative Summit.
The agenda of Friday’s meeting covered issues of European interest, including recent developments in Ukraine and the Middle East, the strategy of the European People’s Party in the run-up to the European elections, and what lies in store for Europe.
