Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reaffirmed Greece’s unwavering support for Ukraine during a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday.
Mitsotakis reportedly accepted Zelensky’s formal invitation to participate in the Conference for Peace in Ukraine, scheduled for June 15-16 in Switzerland.
Following the decisions of the European Council last December, Mitsotakis reiterated Greece’s backing of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and the convening of the EU-Ukraine Intergovernmental Conference next June, which will mark the official start of Ukraine’s accession negotiations with the EU.
Greece is one of the European nations that demonstrated its hands-on support to Ukraine by dispatching military equipment to the embattled nation. A recent report in the Financial Times claimed Greece would send US-made Patriot and Russian-made S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine, a news story PM Mitsotakis denied in a TV interview.
