Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said he would call on the European Commission to exercise its regulatory authority to clamp down on pricing discrepancies across the EU by multinational companies, as he pointed out on Thursday in an interview with the SKAI television station.
Speaking about price fairness, the prime minister emphasized that “Europe should also mean similar or uniform prices for the products sold by multinational corporations.”
Mitsotakis stated that he would send a letter to the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen requesting the EU authorities compel multinationals to explain why they maintain different pricing policies, a reference to the fact that many products sold in Greece feature higher prices than in other European markets.
“Europe should also mean similar or uniform prices for the products sold by our multinational corporations. I am preparing a letter to Mrs. von der Leyen and will request European intervention to have corporate multinationals explain to us why they maintain different pricing policies. Europe has the ability to impose a regulatory framework,” the Greek PM underlined.
