Greek PM Mitsotakis and PM of India Modi Pledge to Enhance Bilateral Relations

The PM of India on his behalf emphasized the existence of opportunities for close cooperation between the two countries with the target being to double trade transactions by 2030

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi welcomed Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and his wife Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis, at the presidential residence Rashtrapati Bhavan, in New Delhi this morning. In their joint statements the two leaders emphasized that their key objectives is the deepening of cooperation between Greece and India across multiple sectors.

More specifically the Greek prime minister stressed the strengthening of relations between the two countries, highlighting the significant progress made in deepening collaboration in defense, security, agriculture, cybersecurity, and other areas. Mitsotakis said that both nations share common values, and are committed to International Law. Regarding the memorandum on migration, he invited young Indians workers to Greece. The Greek PM also pointed out that Greece is India’s gateway to the EU.

Mitsotakis also expressed interest in the Indian IT miracle. What is more, he highlighted the significant Greek investments in India and the recent Indian investment initiatives in Greece with Indian entrepreneurs participating in the new airport in Crete. The Greek PM referred to the agreement made, for Greece to support India’s participation in the UN Security Council, highlighting the challenges the world faces today with the war in Ukraine, in the Middle East, the food crisis, the climate change and the significant role India will play in stability in the region.

Furthermore, he expressed his belief that the citizens of both nations can engage in exchanging ideas as well as taking innovative initiatives to rejuvenate their relations enhancing mobility and facilitating migration. Modi especially highlighted the importance of the interconnecting of the universities of the two counties.
