Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived in Paris on Monday afternoon to attend a conference hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and convened in support of war-battered Ukraine.
Macron is hosting 20 European heads of state and government as well as other western officials in a show of unity for Ukraine, two years after Russia launched a full-scale invasion.
In answer to a press question following the conference, Mitsotakis said there’s is no issue of sending European forces of NATO into Ukraine, saying characteristically:
“…because I have also heard various comments from my colleagues over issues that may have been discussed in the chamber, I want to assure you that there’s no question of sending forces, European forces of NATO inside Ukraine…an issue that for Greece does not exist, and I believe it doesn’t exist for the great majority of our colleagues”.
At the same time, he noted that “we reaffirmed our unity and determination to support Ukraine to defend itself against the Russian invasion.”
He added that European leaders reached a framework close to the framework decided by the European Council on how to better and more practically support Ukraine and achieve useful results.
