Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis proposed the restoration of essential networks and the provision of basic goods in Gaza during the meeting of the ΕEU Council of Foreign Affairs in Brussels on Monday.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the same principles should be applied in all cases of aggression, violation of sovereignty, and terrorism.
For humanitarian reasons, George Gerapetritis suggested an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, allowing the treatment of the wounded and, where necessary, their transfer to hospitals outside Gaza.
Additionally, the Greek minister proposed taking initiatives for the restoration of essential networks and the provision of basic goods.
Gerapetritis highlighted the need for the creation of sustainable humanitarian corridors to ensure a continuous flow of assistance. He also emphasized the importance of installing desalination centers for the mass production of drinking water.
“It is understandable that the humanitarian ceasefire is not enough; however, it is necessary and realistic at this stage, even on a small scale,” stated the Greek minister, adding that it “could create momentum for the cessation of hostilities.”
