Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis was received by the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo on Wednesday during the former’s official visit, with talks revolving around matters of bilateral and regional interest with a focus on the crisis in the Middle East, according to diplomatic sources.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry was also in attendance. Among other issues touched upon was a roadmap for further advancing bilateral relations between Greece and Egypt.
Following the meeting of the two foreign ministers at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a working lunch and a joint press conference are scheduled. Developments in the Middle East and bilateral relations amid increasing tensions in the wider region and concerns about regional destabilization, from the Red Sea to Lebanon, are expected to be high on the agenda of the discussions between the two ministers.
After the conclusion of the bilateral meetings, the Greek foreign minister will meet in Cairo with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
Upon his arrival in the Egyptian capital, Gerapetritis met with representatives of the ethnic Greek communities in Nile national at a Greek consular office.
