Greek Cabinet Reshuffle Announced

A swearing-in ceremony will take place on Friday at 6 p.m.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has appointed his former public order minister, Takis Theodorikakos, as the new development minister, replacing Kostas Skrekas in a minor cabinet reshuffle on Friday. Niki Kerameus was transferred to the Labor and Social Security Ministry from the Interior Ministry.

Earlier press speculation this week at times hinted at a “structural” reshuffle, following the ruling New Democracy (ND) party’s disappointing performance in last Sunday’s European Parliament election.

Additionally, Dimitris Kairidis was replaced at the helm of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum by former defense minister Nikos Panagiotopolos.

Costas Tsiaras, another former minister, will take over at the agriculture and food ministry, from Lefteris Avgenakis.

The PM made changes to Ministries that were recently in the spotlight for negative reasons, such as the Ministry of Interior after the email gate scandal and the leak of citizens’ data to the party’s apparatus, and the Ministry of Development with the high-cost of living plaguing citizens.

A swearing-in ceremony for the new ministers and deputy ministers will take place later in the day at 6 p.m. at the Presidential Mansion, in the presence of the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou. The new cabinet will convene on Saturday morning.
