The Hellenic National Defense General Staff (HNDGS) took part in the annual NATO cyber security exercise, “Cyber Coalition 2023,” in Tallinn, Estonia.
The North Atlantic Alliance is bolstering its cyber defenses in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with Moscow being accused of a barrage of cyber-attacks against Kyiv and its allies.
Approximately 1,000 participants from NATO member states, partners, and the European Union, as well as representatives from industry and academia, took part in this year’s exercise.
Conducted in a virtual exercise environment at the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence in Tallinn, the exercise focused on scenarios involving cyber-attacks on critical infrastructure (networks, intelligence, energy production, supply chain) and electric vehicle support systems.
Legal issues related to recognizing cyber-attacks as armed attacks were also examined during the exercise.
From the Greek perspective, the exercise was coordinated by the Cyber Defense Directorate of the HNDGS, with the participation of cyber security units from the General Staff.
The exercise has been held annually since 2008, bringing NATO allies and partners together to enhance the military bloc’s ability to deter, defend against, and counter threats in cyberspace.
