The top Greek diplomat reiterated the need for the alliance to fully support Ukraine as the whole “architecture” of international security based on the strict adherence to international law and fidelity in upholding the principles of sovereignty and self-determination were at stake

Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis met with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan on the sidelines of the 2-day NATO Summit taking place in Brussels.

Attending the second day of proceedings in Brussels of members’ Foreign Ministers, Gerapetritis said the two men discussed matters included on NATO’s working agenda as well as bilateral issues ahead of their scheduled meeting next month in Turkey.

The top Greek diplomat reiterated the need for the alliance to fully support Ukraine as the whole “architecture” of international security based on the strict adherence to international law and fidelity in upholding the principles of sovereignty and self-determination were at stake.

Speaking to the press on the 75th anniversary of NATO’s founding, the Greek Minister stated: “Today marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of NATO. An alliance that throughout its history has proven to be extremely important for global security and peace. However, this anniversary comes at a time when unfortunately significant hostilities are ongoing, creating significant insecurity in the global arena. Specifically, the issue of Ukraine poses a huge problem that needs immediate management. All member states should assess the possibility of offering assistance to Ukraine, particularly at this stage where Russian aggression seems to be escalating.”

Yesterday, Gerapetritis met with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and the two diplomats discussed ways to effectively support the embattled nation.
