At the time of the tweet, the election results were not officially concluded, though based on contemporary reporting and electoral college votes it appears likely that Donald Trump will be returning to the White House.
Mitsotakis said on Tuesday that Greece’s relationship with the U.S. would not change regardless of the outcome of the presidential election. Mitsotakis has met with both Biden and Trump in his term as Prime Minister, and has focused on fostering relations with the U.S. irrespective of the country’s leadership.
Other European leaders similarly sent Trump congratulations as morning reached the continent. President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen called for a “strong transatlantic agenda.”
I warmly congratulate Donald J. Trump.
The EU and the US are more than just allies.
We are bound by a true partnership between our people, uniting 800 million citizens.
So let’s work together on a strong transatlantic agenda that keeps delivering for them.

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer stated, ” I know that the UK-US special relationship will continue to prosper on both sides of the Atlantic for years to come,” and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called Trump’s re-election “a much-needed victory for the world”.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who will be looking for Trump for support despite the former president’s friendly approach to Russia’s Putin, tweeted “I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to the ‘peace through strength’ approach in global affairs. This is exactly the principle that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer.”
