Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis continued to “fuel” a “thaw” in bilateral relations with Turkey on Monday, pushing aside the often-inflammatory statements by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan over the past years – especially before general elections – to wish him a happy 70th birthday.

The two leaders have already scheduled another face-to-face meeting in the spring in Turkey, probably between May 5 and May 15.

Another round of high-level talks between respective defense ministry delegations of the two countries will precede the meeting, and specifically on confidence-building measures (CBMs). The latter are again expected to avoid standing “differences” but merely confirm a more positive climate in bilateral relations, thereby focusing on so-called “low-impact” issues.
