Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was received by the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani earlier on Sunday after arriving in Doha a day earlier.
Both leaders reaffirmed their willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the economic, tourism and cultural sectors.
Mitsotakis cited the positive prospects of the Greek economy, as he said, and the investment opportunities available in the country, particularly in the energy, tourism and agricultural sectors.
Concerning the situation in the Middle East, Mitsotakis highlighted the important mediating role played by Qatar in the release of hostages held by Hamas and the struggle for peace in the region. The Qatari Emir, in turn, expressed appreciation for Greece’s initiatives and role in the region, most notable Greece’s leading position in military operation “ASPIDES”, which aims to protect commercial shipping in the Red Sea from attacks by the Houthi rebels. The mission’s operational headquarters will be based in the central Greece city of Larissa.
Finally, the two leaders agreed on a Qatari business mission to Athens to explore cooperation opportunities. The Emir of Qatar also accepted the Greek Prime Minister’s invitation to personally travel to Athens for an official visit.
