Ruling New Democracy (ND) party continues to field a comfortable double-digit over its nearest rival, in this case SYRIZA party, according to another opinion poll whose results were unveiled on Thursday.
According to the GPO firm, center-right ND is ahead by 16.9 percentage points over leftist SYRIZA.
The poll results were presented on the prime-time newscast of Athens-based Star channel.
Specifically, ND was favored by 33.1% of respondents, hovering at the level of votes it picked up in the 2019 European Parliament election. SYRIZA is second with 16.2%, followed by socialist PASOK with 13.2%.
Another five lesser parties are shown with support exceeding 3%, the threshold (of valid ballots cast) for electing MEPs. The rightist-populist Elliniki Lysi (Greek Solution) tops the list of the latter with 8.4%.
Incumbent Kyriakos Mitsotakis is easily ahead in terms of political leaders’ popularity, garnering positive responses by 43.5% of respondents. He’s followed by Communist Party (KKE) general secretary Dimitris Koutsoubas, who pools 34.9%.
Telling, 34.3% of respondents said they want their vote in the June 9 Euro-election to support the Mitsotakis government. Conversely, two-thirds of respondents, 60.4%, said they want the opposite.
The high cost of living and the economy topped respondents’ concerns, with 53.4% saying it is their biggest worry.
