A Greek government spokesman on Monday said current “conditions make it difficult” to hold a previously scheduled and upcoming High Level Cooperation Council between Greece and Turkey, speaking during a regular press briefing and in relation to the latest alarming developments in the neighboring country with the jailing of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglou.
Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis first reiterated that any “curtailment of the Rule of Law cannot be tolerated,” while saying the political situation in Turkey appears as fluid and concerning.
Both Athens and Ankara have resumed bilateral talks within the framework of a so-called “positive agenda” since Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan were re-elected last week. Such issues of mutual benefit include entrepreneurship, tourism, transportation, energy, sciences, technology, agriculture, environment, social security & health, youth, education and sports.
