The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources is in Athens for a series of meetings aimed at strengthening energy ties between the United States and Greece.
Geoffrey Pyatt, who served as U.S. Ambassador to Greece for nearly five years, is well-acquainted with Athens and its leadership. During his tenure, one of his key priorities was fostering energy collaboration between the two nations.
According to media reports, Pyatt will be in the Greek capital on October 8 and 9, meeting with senior Greek officials and energy sector executives.
He is also scheduled to deliver a speech at an EU-hosted event focused on diversifying natural gas supplies in Southeastern and Central Europe, as well as efforts to fully decouple from Russian energy by 2027.
Before his assignment in Greece, Pyatt served as the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine during the 2014 Ukrainian revolution against then-President Viktor Yanukovych.
Pyatt has held the position of Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources since September 15, 2022, following his nomination by President Joe Biden.
