Former Syriza Pres. Tsipras to Meet Serbian PM in Belgrade

Former Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will preside over a meeting of the Serbian parliament this Thursday and Friday as he continues his international tour.

The former Prime Minister of Greece and former leader of the leftist party SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, is set to meet with the Prime Minister of Serbia on Thursday and Friday in Belgrade.

Tsipras will preside over a meeting at Serbia’s parliament scheduled for October 11-12. According to an article in To Vima, this meeting is part of a broader international tour being undertaken by Tsipras.

The article also mentions that Tsipras is expected to emphasize the importance of international agreements in ensuring peace and stability during his meeting with Serbia’s leadership.

Additionally, Tsipras is likely to stress the need for building trust, addressing nationalism, and fostering cooperation on security and diplomacy issues, as well as on the economic development of the region, and tackling the challenges of the green and digital transition.

SYRIZA’s Upcoming Elections- Tsipras in the Lead

Currently, the SYRIZA party is without a leader following the party’s ousting of its most recent president, Stefanos Kasselakis, in what critics claim took place in a ‘coup-like’ fashion.

The leftist party’s political secretariat decided to hold a wide-ranging party conference from November 1 through November 3, with yet another internal party election tentatively set for Nov. 24, and a possible second round for December 1.

Polling companies are already beginning to survey whom the public considers the most suitable leader for SYRIZA. An opinion poll by GPO for Star Channel recorded that Alexis Tsipras is considered the most suitable leader of SYRIZA, taking 42.8% of respondents’ preferences. In second place, with a considerable gap, is Kasselakis at 17.9%. Socrates Famellos is in third place with 13.7%, followed by Pavlos Polakis with 7.4%, Olga Gerovassili with 4.7%, Nikolas Farantouris with 2.3%, and Apostolos Gletsos with 1.2%.
